New GCSE league table places St Mary’s in top 10% in Essex

Superb GCSE results achieved by students at St Mary’s, Colchester in 2016 has placed the school as the 11th highest-achieving of the 113 secondary schools in Essex, according to a new league table based on GCSE grades A* to G across eight subjects, known as Attainment 8.

‘GCSE results at St Mary’s are consistently excellent, despite the fact that we are not an academically selective school,’ said Mrs Hilary Vipond, St Mary’s Principal. ‘All of our students benefit from high-quality teaching in a happy, supportive environment where each individual is known and valued. This means that they enjoy their school days and achieve the academic results that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.’

St Mary’s is an independent day school for 400 girls aged 4 to 16 and boys aged 3 to 4, on two campuses close to Colchester town centre. The school was recently listed in the Sunday Times UK Top 100 Prep Schools and ranked 13th of all independent schools in the country without a sixth form. GCSE results consistently place St Mary’s as one of the top-performing schools in Essex, and the highest achieving non-grammar school in the North Essex area, despite the fact that there is no academic selection on entry to the school. Class sizes are small and there is a focus on educating the whole individual, developing students’ characters, interests and talents and creating a purposeful, supportive environment for learning.
