Before I leave the theme of picture books behind, I’d like to flag up ‘The Tailypo A Ghost Story’, written by Joanna Galdone and illustrated by her father Paul Galdone. It is based on a North American folk tale about a woodsman who encounters a weird creature and cuts off its tail which he later eats for dinner. Sounds simple, possibly boring (?) however I have it on good authority from one of our Year 11 students that it is very scary, and I can confirm…it is! A copy is available to read in the Senior School Library – but for those of a timorous nature it might be better read AFTER Halloween…
