Mrs Mitchell, myself and four (very) lucky students felt very privileged to be at the award ceremony for the Children’s Book Award in London last Saturday. We were seated at the table of Korky Paul (probably best known as the illustrator of the Winnie the Witch books for young children) who delighted us by drawing on any scrap of paper that came to hand!
Nine authors had books shortlisted, six of them attended and we were able to mingle and speak to them all. Our girls were part of the presentation to Penny Joelson who won the Books for Older Readers category for ‘I Have No Secrets’. (That book won the in-house vote at St Mary’s too).
Overall winner and also winner in the Books for Younger Readers category was Katherine Rundell for ‘The Explorer’.
