Members of St Mary’s School Council from Years 7 to 9 went along to a Youth Voice Development Day organised by Young Essex Assembly and the Youth Service arm of Essex County Council on Wednesday 13 November at Chelmsford City Racecourse. This extremely valuable day encouraged the students to engage in politics and democracy, as well as looking at how decisions are made within their communities.
The programme consisted of interactive and challenging activities that benefited the students educationally and socially. The girls looked at ways to work to tight deadlines, deal with pressurised situations, learn the importance of planning and preparation, and successfully work as part of a team.
This empowering experience around the theme ‘What Matters to YOUth’ helped the School Council members to think about ways to develop their student voice at St Mary’s.
