Girls at St Mary’s, rated excellent following our recent inspection, are celebrating GCSE success in subjects from STEM to the arts and humanities, reflecting the school’s commitment to delivering an empowering and complete education, designed specifically for girls to thrive.
Over half of results were graded at 9-7/A*-A in nine subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Drama, Classics and History with an incredible 92% of results in Fashion and Textiles awarded at A*-A (equivalent to new grades 9-7) this year.
Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal said “We are incredibly proud of the girls’ accomplishments in their GCSEs this year, as well as everything they do beyond the curriculum. We believe that girls are remarkable and these results demonstrate the girls’ exceptional talents at St Mary’s in a wide variety of subjects.”

Stellar student Lexi White achieved ten grade 9-7s in total, with five of these top grades achieved in STEM subjects; Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Lexi joined the school in the Year 1 class at the Lower School before progressing to the Senior School as a Music Scholar. Lexi plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at A Level and aspires to a career in medicine. Lexi described her elation when collecting her results, “I feel very pleased but also relieved that I have done so well in my GCSEs. Returning to school to collect my results today and seeing my teachers who provide such a supportive environment for us to learn in has felt like I’m celebrating with family.”
Year 11 student Isabel Gill has exceptional artistic talents as well as a passion for international relations and celebrated a grade 9 in Art in addition to achieving a 9 in Religious Studies. Isabel was an Art Scholar and a member of the Arts Council as well as school President for Round Square, a worldwide network of over 200 top schools. Isabel intends to study A Level Art, Religious Studies and Politics at The Sixth Form College Colchester and hopes to venture into a career in either fashion and design or international affairs. She exclaimed, “I am so pleased to have received top grades in Art and RS, this opens up opportunities for me to decide which direction I wish to follow for my future study and careers plans.”
