To mark International Women’s Day, we have launched a poetry competition for school age children. The challenge is to write a poem about an inspirational female who could be fictional or real, famous or someone the child knows, from the past or present.
The poetry competition has four categories for different age groups. Each category will have one winner and two runners-up!
The age categories are as follows:
• Reception to Year 2
• Year 3 to Year 6
• Year 7 to Year 9
• Year 10 to Year 11
Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal said “At St Mary’s we believe that girls are remarkable and so we relish the opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day. This poetry competition will offer the opportunity for girls from St Mary’s and the wider community to get creative and feel inspired by a female who could be fictional, famous or simply somebody they look up to in their lives. We are looking forward to receiving entries, which will be judged by our English Subject Leads at the Lower School and Senior School. I wish everyone the best of luck with their entries!”
Entries should be submitted online by Thursday 29 February. Winners will be announced on International Women’s Day, Friday 8 March. Prizes will be presented at St Mary’s Empowering Girls event at St Mary’s Senior School, on Saturday 9 March, 12.30-1.30pm. Places for this event can be reserved here.
