Academic excellence
At St Mary’s Senior School, we know and understand every girl. In our small classes we’re able to tailor our teaching to each and every student. This is not just in terms of level but also preferred method of learning. We also monitor pupils’ progress closely to ensure we fully support, encourage and stretch each girl in every area.
We are the top non-selective school in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, based on GCSE Attainment 8 scores released by the Government. The national Attainment 8 scores are based on how well pupils in a school have performed in up to 8 qualifications across key subjects at the end of Key Stage 4. In 2025, 55% of GCSE results at St Mary’s were graded at 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A) in comparison to the national average of 22%. An exceptional 100% of results for Latin, Fashion & Textiles and Hospitality & Catering were graded 9-7 or equivalent.
We believe in providing a complete education. As a result we don’t just see excellent academic results, but success across the board, from The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) to public speaking.
