St Mary’s Kindergarten and Lower School is set to expand in response to an increase in demand for places. Starting from the 2025-26 academic year, additional places will be available, with a focus on maintaining the school’s hallmark of small class sizes and exceptional all-round education.
Planning permission has now been granted for an extension to the Kindergarten facilities. At the Lower School, based on London Road, new classes will be added to the junior year groups to accommodate the growing interest while preserving the nurturing and focused learning environment that St Mary’s is known for.
This expansion comes at a time of continued academic success for the school. This year, eight pupils from St Mary’s Lower School achieved outstanding results in the 11+ examination and secured places at Colchester County High School for Girls, making St Mary’s the top feeder school.
The school continues to enhance its 11+ preparation programme while expanding its sports and extracurricular club offerings. Many pupils also go on to secure Scholarships to the Senior School, reflecting the strength of St Mary’s holistic approach to education.
In recognition of its success and commitment to empowering young girls, St Mary’s has recently been shortlisted for the prestigious Independent Girls’ School of the Year 2025 award.
Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal, said “We’re thrilled to be able to offer more families the opportunity to join our vibrant school community. This expansion allows us to grow while still providing the individual attention and high-quality education that our families value so deeply. It’s an exciting time for St Mary’s, and we’re proud to see our pupils achieving so much – both academically and personally.”
