Girls at St Mary’s Colchester are celebrating GCSE success with a significant increase in grades 9-7 or equivalent, reflecting the school’s commitment to delivering an empowering and complete education, designed specifically for girls to thrive.
55% of results at St Mary’s were graded at 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A) in comparison to the national average of 22%. More than half of the results for the core subjects of Maths, English and Science were graded 9-7. An exceptional 100% of results for Latin, Fashion & Textiles and Hospitality & Catering were graded 9-7 or equivalent.
Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal said “We are incredibly proud of the girls’ accomplishments in their GCSEs this year, as well as everything they do beyond the curriculum. We believe that girls are remarkable and these results demonstrate the girls’ outstanding talents at St Mary’s in a wide variety of subjects.”
These excellent results follow the impressive SATs results achieved by Year 6 pupils earlier this summer:
• 90% achieved the higher standard in Reading, almost three times the national average of 33%.
• 74% achieved the higher standard for Maths, almost three times the national average of 26%.
• 58% achieved the higher standard for Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, almost double the national average of 30%.
• 42% achieved greater depth for Writing, over three times the national average of 13%.
This year, eight pupils from St Mary’s Lower School achieved outstanding results in the 11+ examination and secured places at Colchester County High School for Girls, making St Mary’s the top feeder school.
