We hosted an exciting netball masterclass at the Lower School for around 80 girls from Years 4-6 across the local community, led by special guest Serena Guthrie MBE, former England captain on Saturday 14 March.
A central figure in England’s historic 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal victory, Serena is widely recognised for her leadership, resilience and outstanding career across the UK and Australia’s elite leagues. During her visit, she shared insights into her journey to the top of the sport before leading an engaging session of skills and drills.
The event provided pupils with a unique opportunity to learn from one of netball’s most respected figures, developing both their confidence and technique on the court. St Mary’s Year 9 Sports Leader Jemma also played an important role in supporting the session, encouraging and assisting the younger players throughout.
The afternoon concluded with time for autographs and photographs, leaving girls inspired by Serena’s experience, dedication and passion for the game.
Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal said: “We were thrilled to offer this fantastic opportunity to girls from the wider community. Serena’s achievements and her commitment to inspiring the next generation made this a truly memorable and impactful event.”
