St Mary’s School held an Eager Engineers STEM event on Saturday 15 March to help inspire girls’ futures.
Marking British Science Week, the event at St Mary’s Lower School offered girls in Year 1 (age 5) through to Year 6 (age 11) the opportunity to work collaboratively and take on coding, maths, science and engineering tasks in STEM LEGO and LEGO building challenge workshops. From creating buildings and animal shelters through to building and coding moving vehicles and Ferris wheels using the LEGO SPIKE™ Prime App on iPads, activities provided the opportunity for girls to get creative using their imagination and technology.
Principal, Mrs Nicola Griffiths said “We were delighted to welcome so many girls to our Eager Engineers event in honour of British Science Week. The girls were thrilled to be given the opportunity to
learn new coding and robotics building techniques as well as demonstrate their creativity and teamwork skills. Our STEM provision at St Mary’s sparks our pupils’ curiosity and this event was designed to foster high aspirations amongst girls in an area where women are still under-represented.”
