On Saturday, 11 October 2025 St Mary’s Senior School will host the next event in its Empowering Girls talk series, featuring Track and Field Sprinter Victoria Ohuruogu – a remarkable athlete whose story of determination and achievement continues to inspire.
Victoria first captured national attention at the age of 21, when she earned a bronze medal for Great Britain as part of the 4×400m relay team at the 2014 World Indoor Championships. Since then, her athletic career has gone from strength to strength. In 2022, she claimed the British 400m title, won silver in the individual 400m at the Commonwealth Games and contributed to bronze medal finishes at both the World and European Championships in the 4×400m relay.
Most recently, Victoria added to her legacy at the Paris 2024 Olympics, helping Team GB secure another bronze medal in the women’s 4×400m relay – further cementing her reputation as one of Britain’s most consistent and dedicated sprinters.
“Victoria’s journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved through hard work, resilience and unwavering self-belief,” said Mrs Nicola Griffiths, Principal. “Her story aligns perfectly with the goals of our Empowering Girls series – encouraging young women to dream big, overcome challenges and thrive. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome her to St Mary’s.”
The event promises to be an uplifting and memorable occasion for pupils, families and members of the wider community who are passionate about youth empowerment, athletics and women’s achievement.
